Project Description

Water has been identified as a key structural risk for our society for 9 years now with one of the 5 strongest severity of impact as a potential source and multiplier of disasters for our economy, people and our environment. Water Europe (WE) advocates for a Water Smart Society. As human capital is key to invest in our future, WE aims to raise awareness about this matter in the water sector at the EU level.

Approach

The project consists in a mapping exercise based on desktop research and a survey caried out in July 2019 which aimed to identify best practices and challenges of the European water sector for its human capital agenda which the obijective to identify best practices and how human capital is addressed in Europe.

Results

The project conclusion is a white-paper used by the WE Working-group on human capital as an input for its activties. The main obstacles were the lach of data centralisation and the different degree of importance in the Member States and the European agendas.

Follow-up

Considering this document as a living document, the group updates the information on a regular basis. It aims to provide a picture of the situation to advocate at the EU level. The document was used to produce position papers. The text is also a source of information for other activities within Water Europe.
