Junior professionals

Hedviga Horvathova

I am a holder of a Ph.D. in Metallurgy of Metals, with 6+ years of experience in teaching at the university in the study branch Environmental Engineering. Since now, I have worked on different research projects, where I studied the possibilities of removal cations and anions from wastewater.  I have interest in various physical and chemical methods used for wastewater treatment e.g. sorption processes.  Currently, I work on national projects linked with an industry where I am responsible for solving problems with wastewater released during hydrometallurgical treating of industrial waste.

To pursue my passion for wastewater treatment and to build upon my existing knowledge and experience, I enrolled in The European Junior Water Programme. To join the programme, I would like to share my findings of the wastewater treatment processes with other participants and to extend my knowledge about water management and learn new things. I believe that the EWJP will help me creates relationships with other professionals which will lead to long-lasting collaboration.

Loic Charpentier

I started in the EU R&D policy and I stumbled on the water sector fortuitously. I discover a huge and complex topic which is paramount for people and our economies. The most interesting challenge is to contribute in the improvement of the international governance to avoid the “Colorado river effect” and to find innovative solutions to ensure a smart water management with citizens and local authorities.

I joined WssTP in January 2018. I am in charge of membership and contributing to the policy and advocacy programmes (mainly HorizonEurope, Cohesion policy). I am graduated from the University of Brussels (ULB) in European Studies and also in Law from the University of Bordeaux.

For me, the EJWP is an opportunity to work on European projects and exchange knowledges and best practices to tackle climate change. For me, this challenge is  the most important for my generation and we need to find innovative solutions, particularly for water-related issues. Therefore, I am eager to work with other young professionals to contribute to the development of those solutions and make Europe resilient to climate change.

Martha Bjarnar Gjermo

Aqua Alarm, Environmental, Resource and Development economist.

I am a young professional, working as a business developer consultant and analyst at Aqua Alarm AS. I completed a master in climate, resource and development economics from the University of Oslo spring 2018, where I developed a model to consider socioeconomic effects of different monitoring concepts for drinking water. I am currently working with business development and analytics regarding drinking water management and sensors for continuous monitoring of water quality.

My primary motivation for participation is to learn more about the water industry, and to increase my competence within this field. I do also believe that my socioeconomic background, and especially resource economics, might be of interest for the other participants, and that I might add a different perspective to the group. Establishing new connections within the European water industry and understanding more about emerging innovations, solutions and techniques to solve emerging problems, water scarcity, unknown pollution and climate changes on a European level is something I hope to achieve through this program.

Rhys Hellin

Rhys is a Dwr Cymru, Welsh Water Sub Programme Delivery Manager with nine years’ experience. He has experience in all stages of contract management, from pre contract tender production through to post-contract management, in the civil engineering, utility and building fields of the UK construction industry.

Ioana Dobrescu

I have a background in Environmental Sciences with an MSc in Nature Conservation. I have done both my Bachelor’s and my Master’s theses on water ecology and ended up falling in love with the many aspects of water.

For the past seven years I have been working in the water sector supporting knowledge and technology exchange and bridging networks between Romania and the Netherlands. Recently I started working with the Water Footprint Implementation, a company that will change the way industries and nations manage water resources by offering a unique and precise view into their availability and use.

I have joined the European Junior Water programme because I am always striving to learn more about the water sector. What are the common struggles, similarities and differences, what are the available solutions and where are the most promising innovations? Participating in the EJWP will allow me to do that by training, networking and going on field visits in several countries in Europe in the course of the two years.

Rosa Esposito

Rosa is an Environmental Engineer with a MSc degree in Environmental Engineering at Federico II University of Naples (Italy). She works as Technology Consultant for Isle Utilities in the Italian team.

She has worked on projects which aim to improve the efficiency of water supply and distribution systems, developing a variety of competences in water systems for Non-Revenue Water management, leakage reduction, pressure control, energy recovery and in the application of innovative technologies in water systems.

Rosa is very interested in European Junior Water Programme and in its goals and she strongly belives in the European countries cooperation and in sharing knowledge with the aim to achieve a more sustainable and a safer water sector in Europe. Furthermore she firmly belives in the importance of a European network of professionals in order to make the difference in recognizing potential opportunities, achieving goals and in definition of shared methodologies for the creation a water smart society in Europe.
